In recent years, the visits between the senior leader of the two countries had increased. When President Jiang Zemin visited India in 1996, the leader of this two countries reached a consensus of entering into the constructive relationship of the 21centuries.
1998年後高層互訪曾經中斷。到2000年5月,在慶祝中印建交50周年的日子裡,印度總統納拉亞南訪問了中國,這是兩國關係受挫後恢復正常的重要標誌。2001年初中國人大委員長李鵬訪印。2002年1月,在南亞局勢緊張的時候,中國總理朱鎔基依然按計劃訪問印度,說明中國政府對中印關係十分重視。2002年初,印度議會議長喬希訪華;4月,印國防部長費爾南德斯冒著“非典”的風險訪華;6月,印度總理瓦傑帕伊訪華,這是十年來第一位印度總理訪華,把兩國關係推向了高潮。
After 1998, the visits between the senior leader of the two countries suspended. In May 2005, the president of India, Narayanan, visited China when celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of establishing diplomatic relation between China and India. This visit was the symbol of recovery of Sino-India relation. In 2001, Li Peng, the NPC chairman, visited India. On January 1992, Zhu Rongji, the prime minister, still visited India on schedule, despite the tension of South Asia at that time, which indicated that China thought highly of the Sino-India relation. At the beginning of 2002, the head of India parliament josh visited China. On April, the defense minister of India, Fernandez, still visited China although the epidemic of SARS was serious at that time. On June, Vajpayee, the prime minister visited China. Vajpayee was the first prime minister who visited in the past ten years, which pushed the Sino-India relation to a climax.
訪華取得了重要成果,兩國總理簽署了中國和印度關係原則和全面合作的宣言。這份綱領性檔確立了兩國關係的目標和指導原則,全面規劃兩國在各個領域的合作。兩國政府還簽署了九個合作檔,合作領域涉及經濟、科技、文化、教育、司法、領事等方面。
Their visits to China achieved great results. The Prime Minister of both countries signed the principles of Sino-India relations and comprehensive cooperation declaration. This programmatic document established the goal and guiding principles of the Sino-India relation and comprehensively planed the cooperation in all areas. China and India signed further nine documents and established the cooperation relating economy, science and technology, culture, education, justice and the consul.
